Green Drink Reviews: Green Vibrance

June 21st, 2008

UPDATED: Dec 2010
An excellent formulation of spirulina, grasses and vegetable powders. Includes a nice selection of “extra botanicals” including bee pollen, ginko biloba, green tea extract, and Astragalus. Contains a slightly high amount of filler/fibrous ingredients, but that’s offset by an excellent price tag. Also has a fruit blend, probiotic cultures and enzymes. The mango powder, cayenne, and ginger are excellent additions. Overall, this is an excellent formulation at a reasonable price.

i bought this and the best way to describe how its tastes is imagine a dirty creek/swamp dip a cup in that creek/swamp and drink it. thats how it tastes. i tried to drink it fast but almost threw up, the only way i can get it down is by sipping

I have been taking Green Vibrance and have been liking it a lot. The taste is no worse than the others and better than most. Still, if you gag at green drinks in general, then I suggest one of these two recipes (my favorite recipes):

    Chocolate Green Shake
In a blender, add 12 oz of vanilla almond milk, one heaping tablespoon of pure chocolate powder, 1/4 cup of peanuts (or a tablespoon of organic peanut butter), honey or maple syrup to taste. Oh, and your favorite green drink powder. Blend until well mixed.

    Vanilla Fruit Smoothie
In a blender, add 1 cup of frozen berries, 12 oz of vanilla almond milk, honey or maple syrup to taste and your favorite green drink. Mix well.

I use my juicer and juice 2 cucumbers, a green apple and three stalks of celery and mix that with my green vibrance. It really helps with the taste and is my morning pick me up.

I love this green drink and see amazing results with my life when I drink it..the only thing is that I use about 3 times the reccommended dose to feel the effects. Whatever though.. My drink: Frozen Organic mixed Berries. (Blueberry, blackberry, raspberry) Orange Juice or Grapefruit Juice, Banana, and xylitol. You can’t taste the green at all with the berries. xoxo

Don’t try drinking this with water. It’s like licking the bottom of a pond. At the very least mix it with some juice. That said, this stuff worked for me. I cam back from Thailand where I was on antibiotics for a month with my stomach a complete mess. Three days on this stuff and I was back to normal. To be clear, I had discontinued the antibiotics at the same time I started with the GV. Next time I will be taking the GV with me and taking it while on the antibiotics.

This is probably the best green blend I have ever found! Its got just about everything but the kitchen sink! I add a little healthy juice like Pom or Acai, 1 cap of fulvic ionic minerals, some ice and then fill up the remainder of the glass with water – easy as pie to drink this way!!!

I drink this stuff in chocolate milk. Its energizing and good for the sex life. I use less than a teaspoon. Its great for digestion and acid reflux

The best way to drink GV is with very cold water.

  • 9. daniel in portland  |  April 19th, 2009 at 11:19 am

I just started this drink and ABSOLUTELY feel the difference.

Everyone, this is NOT a smoothie. I don’t know why so many people offer comments like “this is like licking the bottom of a pond.” Have you ever done such a thing? How would you know?

And it really tastes GREAT if you mix it with some OJ. Quite easy!

You wil feel a boost in sex

  • 10. admin  |  April 19th, 2009 at 12:50 pm

“Licking the bottom of a pond” is a great image for drinking a green drink in plain water. I also like “swamp in a cup” and one of my favorites is “it tastes like putting a frog in a blender.”

But let’s be serious. Green drinks are not meant to be mixed with just plain water. In my opinion, the best green drinks are usually not the best tasting. Most people really need to mix their green drink with juice or chocolate soy milk or some other flavored liquid. If you like V8 juice, try adding your green drink to plain tomato juice. You’ll get a super healthy version of V8 for a lot less money. Even the flavored green drinks (which usually taste horrible for other reasons, like too much stevia, mint, or added flavors) are best when mixed with juice.

So don’t judge your green drink on its flavor alone! Our “taste” category in these reviews is really just to give you an idea of how you can mix these powders. Some are best with fruit juices, others are best with chocolate and soy milk and some are neutral and can go either way. Flavored green drinks actually have fewer mixing possibilities, because they already have a strong taste.

    Keep the comments coming!

Try mixing with Minute Maid Berry Juice drink…. I love it !

  • 12. Stacey  |  May 5th, 2009 at 10:59 am

I have Fibro and a pretty weak immune system. This stuff is the only thing that I have found that keeps my system on track! Definitely drink it with juice…preferrably orange…or orange/pineapple. Don’t drink it with water! It tastes “green”. I have to tell you though, I have not gotten sick this whole cold and flu season — and I believe it’s because of this stuff! I highly recommend it!

  • 13. chris  |  May 14th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I felt a huge increaes in overall health. I felt happier and my head was clearer. I bought a case of mini apple juices from Costco(Price Club, BJs). Threw in one scoop and slammed it. Once you get used to it, it tastes fine. I really felt like it was worth the 10 secs of bad after taste. I buy the family size one just for me and keep it in the freezer. I love it.

  • 14. Debra  |  June 7th, 2009 at 4:50 pm

It’s been a long time since I licked the bottom of a pond or a nice tall glass of Blender Frog, perhaps centuries..I enjoyed all the creativity alot..About me: I use to take this and felt the difference..after gaining way too many pounds, it’s time to hit the Happy Trail of nutrition rather than comfort foods and GV is terrific for that…Personally, I think it tastes like Health!!

  • 15. trying it in NY  |  June 12th, 2009 at 7:49 pm

I agree that this is a hard drink to get down. The best way for me is to mix it with one of those Dannon yogurt drinks. You have to mix it real well. It helps mentally if you dont have to look at the color and you leave it in the dannon container

  • 16. Ogechi  |  June 16th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

This stuff is delicious in fresh squeezed orange juice.
It is simply divine mixed into chocolate soy milk.
    Take your pick.
Either one is a creamy delight and I love the crunch of the particles as they hydrate.
I really like the taste of this stuff and it gives me an instant energy and mood boost when I drink it at any time of day.

I usually can’t drink just one serving. ;) It really tastes and feels good.

As I transitioned into the raw foods lifestyle, my body experience some detox reactions and I believe that this mix of nutrients helped me to alleviate some muscle pain.

Does anyone know if GV fulfills the Daily Recommended allowance for Vegetables? If not the total amount, half the amount or a quarter? Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

PS – I drink mine with 4 oz of OJ (not from concentrate) – looks and smells bad but tastes fine.

  • 18. admin  |  June 18th, 2009 at 7:58 pm

The RDA amounts are actually quite vague and difficult to measure. They give the RDA amounts for fruits and vegetables in “number of servings per day” for different levels of calorie intake…but they don’t exactly tell you how many nutrients that represents. That’s because one cup of corn is quite different nutritionally than one cup of kale. So the RDA values are considered to be a very rudimentary guideline. Most nutritionists believe that you need much more than the RDA values.

The RDA does provide values for specific nutrients, vitamins and minerals, so you could calculate the AVERAGE amount of these nutrients in a cup of “mixed veggies” and go from there. You’ll probably find that a nutrient-rich superfood drink (like Green Vibrance and others reviewed here) offers the equivalent of about 4 to 5 cups of mixed veggies per serving. If you take one serving in the morning and another in the afternoon (not to mention veggies you eat during the day), then you’ve probably gone way beyond the RDA and that’s probably a good thing.

By the way, the RDA for an average adult with a 2,200 calorie diet is 4.5 servings per day. Women or those with a smaller calorie intake require fewer servings, while very active people and teens can go as high as 6 servings.

Remember these comments are just to give you a general and “common sense” guideline…

Any side affects? I have had a headache that appears within 30 minutes of drinking my greens. Never had them before. Am I detoxing? Anyone got any ideas? This has been going on for 10 days.

  • 20. admin  |  June 23rd, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Getting a headache 30 minutes after drinking your green drink would not be a common detox reaction, so I would consider the possibility that you are allergic to something in this mixture. Of course, if your headaches continue after you stop taking the green drink, then you should consult a doctor.

There are numerous ingredients in the Green Vibrance mixture, so the chances are good that one or more has affected you. A good test would be to purchase one of the “simple” formulations — one that doesn’t have too many ingredients (such as Dr. Shulze’s SuperFood or Mighty Greens) and see if you get the same reaction. If so, then you may be allergic to the grasses, spirulina or chlorella. You can try to find a green formula without these things…or you can just switch your health supplementation to red drink formulas instead.

If you don’t have a reaction to the basic formulas, then you can start adding different ingredients to see if you can pinpoint the culprit. You can get many of these ingredients in extract (tincture) form at health food markets. Green tea extract and ginko biloba are two good starting points.

  • 21. Donn  |  June 24th, 2009 at 8:47 am

Thank you for the information. I do have allergies to different types of blooming trees and plants, so perhaps it is the grasses. I’m going to continue for another week and see if anything changes. I have much more energy and my brain isn’t so foggy anymore. I really don’t want to discontinue the product, but it’s nice to know what the issue might be with me. We’ll see what happens! Thanks again.

  • 23. connie jo  |  July 3rd, 2009 at 11:30 am

my husband has alot of stomach problems, does anyone think that the gv would be of any help to him? comments greatly appreciated

  • 24. karla  |  July 8th, 2009 at 10:01 am

a guy at whole foods recommended this to me for a energy boost/all natural cleanse and i’m really liking it so far.. i fill up a water bottle with organic apple juice and add the powder so i can shake it before each drink and i think it tastes pretty good.. he said not to drink it with oj because the acidity breaks down some of the nutrients but i don’t know if that’s true

  • 25. admin  |  July 8th, 2009 at 10:31 am

Many people avoid drinking green drinks with acidic juices, such as OJ…mostly to maintain the alkalinity of the drink, not because it breaks down the nutrients. It’s possible that can happen, but I’ve not heard that before. I prefer mild juices like apple and white grape myself.

  • 26. admin  |  July 8th, 2009 at 10:33 am

Connie Jo: It really depends on what’s causing the stomach problems. GV and other green drinks are known to help with digestive problems, acidity and related issues. You can try some and see if it helps. Start with a mild dose to ease into it.

  • 27. Shawn  |  July 10th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I have recently switched from a green supplement that I’ve used for about 7 years now, to this. In my opinion this is without a doubt the best supplement on the planet and my body is telling me so. Anyone who complains about the taste is really not into heath foods at all, doesn’t realize that the healthiest foods don’t necessarily taste great, and what’s more important to them is taste. If you give your body time, after a while it will love you for it and you wont care about taste anymore.

  • 28. admin  |  July 10th, 2009 at 4:18 pm

What I have found is that after awhile, your taste buds adjust to the new input and you begin enjoying the flavor. For me, the taste of green plants is associated with health and vitality and I really like it. I’ve heard that if you eat something for 14 days in a row, your taste buds will adjust and you will like it. Perhaps there are limits to this, but you get the idea…

  • 29. Ingrid  |  July 12th, 2009 at 8:17 am

While the smell is not good, it doesn’t seem to have a bad TASTE- I just hold my breath and chug it. It’s the only way I can get it down. But I’ve noticed that the smell may be strong and awful, but I have to ACTIVELY smell the glass to notice it- it doesn’t invade the whole kitchen. Again- just hold your breath and chug- it seems to be worth it. I”m going to try the spicy V8 next- hoping that helps a little.

  • 30. reine  |  July 15th, 2009 at 7:13 pm

does anyone know how this compares to Amazing Grass Greenfoods?

  • 31. admin  |  July 16th, 2009 at 10:32 am

Reine: They are completely different products. Amazing Grass is a basic formulation focusing on grasses, while Green Vibrance is a super robust formula with spirulina, grasses and many other botanicals. Click on the Amazing Grass link in the right column for a full review of that product and compare to the GV review on this page.

I’m not saying that GV is always better because it’s more robust. You need to decide what’s best for you. Some people prefer to purchase a basic formula and add to it (such as adding the two super-botanicals I provide here on this site). Amazing Grass is only $2.82 per ounce, while GV is $3.86 per ounce. That’s a big difference that could pay for a lot of extras if you like adding them yourself.

  • 32. kelly  |  July 21st, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I bought GV over Amazing Greens due to a recommendation from a whole foods representative. They said it contains much more greens, as well as fruit, and it includes the wheat grasses that Amazing Greens has.

My girlfriend and I are looking for a natural energy boost, and trying to get away from caffeine, energy drinks, etc.

That being said, after 3 days of no caffeine (I used to drink two monsters a day) and instead having 1-2 servings of GV, I feel like a zombie. No pick me up whatsoever – I can barely function in the AM now. And my girlfriend has not felt any pick me up either, but she has felt considerable headache and stomach ache immediately after drinking.

We are going to stick it out and give it a shot for at least 2 weeks before deciding to discontinue or not.

BTW, having never had a green drink before, we both agreed that GV tastes equivalent to what pond water would probably taste like. We’ve added it to apple juice and its bearable, but will probably try fresh fruit and/or OJ.

  • 33. Arika  |  July 25th, 2009 at 2:54 am

I had to chuckle after reading the comments about GV tasting like pondwater. It’s probably because I’m a vegetarian expat living in Asia and my diet consists of mostly grassy green tea, bok choy, seaweed and tofu, but this stuff doesn’t taste like anything to me! When I read the reviews, I was expecting to go “yuck” but chug it down for the good of humanity. But I can just put it in a half cup of water straight and I don’t think it has any flavour at all. I think it’s just what you’re used to. For detox, I used to juice kale, mustard greens, spinach and beets, mixed with a some psyllium seed. Talk about wanting to throw up! (Worked like a charm though.) So far both my husband and I really like this mix.

  • 34. Norma  |  July 25th, 2009 at 6:44 pm

I’ve just bought GV at Fairaway in NYC, I hope it works for me, I need a boost of energy, after all the comments about taste and smells I am looking foward tomorrow morning and see for myself, I will try it with vainilla soy milk.

  • 35. admin  |  July 25th, 2009 at 8:41 pm

Kelly: I applaud your effort to get away from caffeine. I stopped all caffeine myself about 2 months ago (not even decaf) and, although my energy is lower than it was, it’s a whole lot more stable. And I am much more centered throughout the day. For an energy boost, try juicing pure kale and cucumber and mixing it with your green drink and fruit juice. It will give you plenty of energy.

If you don’t have a juicer, you can blend this with a bit of juice and/or water, then strain before adding to your green drink mixture.

    Good luck!

  • 36. Dr Truax  |  August 5th, 2009 at 7:38 am

1/2 way thru a canister of GV and I have decided to go back to Nanogreens. GV is gritty, does not dissolve nearly as well or taste as well as Nanogreens. But it is a good formulation

  • 37. ap  |  August 9th, 2009 at 7:58 am

pond scum . . . maybe, but the benefits appear to outweigh the taste. After a vigorous workout when the body tends to be more dehydrated, introducing a large glass of GV and giving access to cells that are in absorption mode appears to have compounded benefits. Recovery is quicker, sense of well-being is more profound, energy levels more quickly normailzed and day after overall physical exercise related fatique is diminished. I used to “juice” a mixture of beet, kale, cucumber, carrot, parsley, celery, spinach, broccoli and other ingredients. My family disaffectionately referred to it as “punishment” and it was. GV is a mild tasting in comparison.

  • 38. John  |  August 21st, 2009 at 11:37 am

I love it! I mix it with: Milk, Blueberries, A scoop of Ice Cream and Whey Protein. I use it as a meal and mix the GV in with it all. So far it has been awesome, I feel great, focused, stomach is ok etc. Question? I have read in previous comments that it should not be mixed with acidic drinks (Milk) because it breaks down some of the good stuff. Is this true? Thanks!

  • 39. Delores  |  August 29th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

I mix blueberries, strawberries, acia berries a scoop of soy protein a scoop of GV with two cups water a dash of agave and use for a meal replacement twice a day for weight loss.Very complete I think.

  • 40. Troy  |  September 18th, 2009 at 6:31 pm

GV reduces my PVC’s — skip bests. Seems to calm the nervous system.

  • 41. mauigirl  |  September 19th, 2009 at 4:57 pm

Is it safe to take GV while breastfeeding?

  • 42. admin  |  September 19th, 2009 at 5:26 pm

    Hi Mauigirl,
I replied to this question in the review of greenshield, but here it is again for you…

First, you should probably consult your doctor before making any major changes to your diet while breastfeeding. That goes for any change — even a healthy one. Second, whatever you begin in terms of green drinks, supplements, or herbal health products…you should begin slowly and with a very small dose. Then increase gradually while monitoring the effects on you and your child. Green drinks in general should not pose a problem to breast milk when taken in small amounts. However, I would suggest staying away from green drinks that are high in detoxifying ingredients (which Green Shield is due to the clay) or those with exotic herbs. You might steer toward the green drinks that are formulated simply for nutrition.

  • 43. Tinisha  |  September 20th, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I really enjoy the drink, although I’ve been reading the comments and I understand that the taste isn’t the best. I drink it with very cold water and ice, and a packet of splendid. It’s not that bad. I drink it every morning. It’s perfect to start the day, and I’ve noticed a huge difference in energy and my overall health.

Is it a good idea to mix green vibrance with milk and drink it. I heard drinking milk is not such a good idea as it produces acid in the body. Somebody please reply with your expert opinion. Thanks in advance…

  • 45. David Schroeder  |  October 6th, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Hmmm. I’m sure the bad taste is not that pleasant.

  • 46. lvargas  |  October 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm

Try 1 scoop Green Vibrance, 1 cup russian style organic non sweetened yogurt-
10 frozen organic cherries , 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup freshly ground golden toasted flax seeds,
1 banana, in the blender and maybe a teaspoon of local honey or maple syrup if feeling whimpy.
drink while eating a handful of raw organic almonds or walnuts.
It is the best breakfast ever for energy…and totally regulates the digestive tract.

  • 47. tremell  |  October 20th, 2009 at 7:32 pm

I am about to have surgery for the removal of 11 softball size fibroids. I will be off work for two month recovering from surgery. I want to start this GV as a way to supplement eating. Is GV ok as a meal supplement? Also, will it help me to heal quicker?

  • 48. admin  |  October 21st, 2009 at 10:13 am

Tremall: Just about any of these green drinks will make a good meal supplement (not meal replacement, but meal supplement). That’s what they’re designed for. The added herbs in GV will help you heal better through improved immune response and better overall nutrition for your body. But you might consider adding extra herbs to really help your immune system. I always recommend Pine Bark Extract and Olive Leaf Extract (which I offer on this site in pure extract powder form). You might also consider Dandelion extract, Reishi Mushroom powder and adaptogens like Crown Herb and Ginseng. All of these herbs will add more healing power to your green drink meal supplement.

But adding these extras is not necessary with a good, robust formula like GV, so just get started and happy healing!

  • 49. Danielle  |  October 22nd, 2009 at 3:20 pm

Hello, I have been taking Green Vibrance daily (I don’t think I have missed even 1 day) for almost 2 years now, mainly for the probiotics as a natural way to subdue my many allergies. I have been reading some scary stuff about spirulina and blue green algae and have begun to worry about any toxic effects from long-term use of this product. Do you have any information on the source of their ingredients? Is there any way to get information about their safety? Do people generally take this product on a daily basis for extended periods of time? Thank you, any input will be appreciated, DC

  • 50. admin  |  October 22nd, 2009 at 4:00 pm

    Hello Danielle,
It’s true that the source of the botanical ingredients in green drinks (or any other supplement for that matter) has a great influence on their quality. The issue is not only about where the ingredients are grown and harvested, but how they are grown, treated, dried, processed and shipped. Some people will tell you that green tea extract is not to be used, while green tea powder is ok. Many believe that wheat and barley grass powders are nothing but filler, while the grass juice powders are worthwhile. Still others argue that flaxseed meal is only good if it’s processed and stored in refrigerated environments. And many claim that the drying process of Maca Root affects the quality of the finished powder.

Well, there is no greater controversy over a botanical ingredient than the one that exists over spirulina. The argument is mostly between proponents of AFA algae (called blue-green algae) from Klamath Lake, Oregon and typical spirulina grown in controlled environments. I’ve written about this controversy in the article What’s All the Klatter About Klamath Lake on this site. I don’t know the specifics about the source of the spirulina in Green Vibrance, but it’s not listed as AFA algae (the one that many claim has toxic effects) and the label shows that it’s 100% organic. I would bet that it’s a quality spirulina. I’ve put a letter into the company to get more information and will share that with my readers as soon as I have an answer.

As for the question of taking a green drink daily, there is no reason why you should not be able to take a basic green drink formula on a daily basis. Green drinks are mostly food products, not supplement products, so you’re really just getting nutrition from food. The exception to this are the green drinks that have large amounts of supplemental herbs, such as ginko biloba, astragalus, milk thistle, and other such herbs. But in my opinion, most of the green drinks that include these herbs do not have such large amounts that daily use would be problematic. For the most part, green drinks are designed for daily use.

That being said, I am a believer in giving your body a change from time to time. Body builders know, for example, that performing the same exercise over and over again is not effective after a certain amount of time because your muscles acclimate to the movement, making the exercise less effective. The body seems to respond well to change and variety. I suggest taking periodic breaks from your green drink routine to focus on some other nutritional program…perhaps a red drink program for awhile. After a couple of months, go back to your green drink routine again. You might find that you feel better each time you return.

The taste is fine albeit better with juice or smoothie,So great for anyone trying to get heathier in an easy, lazy way!The amounts and varity of nutrients cannot be matched at this cost.I find it best if kept in the freezer after opening. I know with diligence it works wonders. It is the best.

Try the GV with vanilla yogurt.

  • 55. michael  |  December 30th, 2009 at 6:12 am

Has anyone experienced heart palpitations or heart racing after taking this? I’m a young healthy male who recently had a perfect cardio stress test, but something right now is causing my heart to race. It’s not accompanied by pain so I’m trying to rule out some things before rushing to the doctor. I’ve been taking GV for about a month which is when the heart racing more or less began. I have other factors in my life that could contribute to this, ie stress, the holidays, etc. But I was just curious if an allergy to something in GV might be the culprit or if anyone else has had similar experiences?

  • 56. admin  |  December 30th, 2009 at 11:08 am

    Hi Michael,
The only thing I can see in this mixture that might cause this is the 20mg of green tea extract it contains. If you are sensitive to caffeine, then this could cause the reaction you’ve experienced. A fairly large dose of Vitamin B3 could also do this, but there really isn’t that much in this mixture that I can see. I would consider trying a mixture without green tea extract in it and see how you do.

Obviously, if your heart continues to race, you should see a doctor, but under normal conditions, the racing should go away after several minutes.

I have been drinking GV with various juices on and off for a month now (I’ve been travelling and it’s hard to bring along w/o keeping in a freezer). Is it OK to take this along with food at meal time? I had heard probiotics are best on an empty stomach but I get hungry and would prefer taking with food. Also, do you know if the capsules have the same benefits as the powder? I’ve seen those online and it would be easier to use those while traveling.
    Thanks, Shannon

I have been drinking Green Vibrance for a couple of months. When I ask one of the associate at whole food market about the product, he told me that I have to change to something like Green Super Food because Green Vibrance is also an antioxidant. Antioxidant should be used for about a month and switch to another product.
Any comment? Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • 59. admin  |  January 17th, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Shannon, you can take green drinks with food, but it’s better to take them on an empty stomach. One reason is that many foods slow down and even block the body’s ability to process nutrients (dairy foods for example). Another reason is that it will be absorbed into your system faster and more efficiently if taken alone. But if you have food with your green drink, it’s better than not taking a green drink at all!

  • 60. admin  |  January 17th, 2010 at 11:09 pm

Brook, almost every green drink CONTAINS antioxidants, which come from ingredients like green tea, tumeric root, and fruit powders (just to name a few). You do not need to switch from one green drink to another because they contain antioxidants. That makes no sense. Go ahead and keep using the green drink you prefer and get all the antioxidants you can — it’s best to get a variety of antioxidants from a variety of sources.

  • 61. Christopher Rodriguez  |  January 18th, 2010 at 12:45 pm

People. It doesn’t have to taste bad. I’ve always considered this a supplement: it should be taken with something that will make it easy. To mask the taste, this is how you do it: pour little lemonade and add 1000mg pack of Vitamin C. Mix it up. You can find the Vitamin C packs right NEXT to the Green Vibrance in your store. The tartness of the lemonade and the Vitamin C completely masks the bitterness of Green Vibrance. It tastes delicious. TRUST ME. Try it!

  • 62. Jordan  |  January 19th, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I understand there are antioxidants, fiber, polyphenols…in some of these green drinks. But has there been a study proving the benefits of these green drinks? Or are these just money in the toilet, so to speak. Recently there has been a surge of vitamin studies proven that these substrates really do not provide any benefit, perhaps harmful, unless you have a deficiency. In short, are there studies to prove these $40 drinks beneficial?

  • 63. DENISE  |  January 19th, 2010 at 6:44 pm

I STARTED TAKING GV AND I WILL TELL YOU, I WAS ALITTLE NERVOIUS BECAUSE I AM ALLERGIC TO FLAXSEED BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO AFFECT ME AND I HAVE BEEN DRINKING IT FOR ABOUT A MONTH. IT IS MY MOM THAT STARTED TAKING IT AND SAID SHE BEGAN FEELING ALITTLE DIZZY AND NOW SHE HAS A BLADDER INFECTION. COULD THIS ALL BE RELATED TO TAKING GV?

  • 64. admin  |  January 20th, 2010 at 11:08 am

Jordan, it’s important to remember that the nutrition in most green drinks does not come from added vitamins and minerals (whether natural or synthetic), but from actual food and plant powders. In other words, it’s not like taking a vitamin, which is extracted, synthesized and processed — or like eating “vitamin enriched bread” which simply has these synthesized components added in. Taking a green drink is like eating food. In fact, green drinks are technically NOT SUPPLEMENTS. Rather, they are FOODS. You are getting vitamin C from fruit powders and minerals from spinach powder, and so on. The FDA has many studies showing how nutrients from foods are essential in a normal diet and provide health benefits. Drinking a green drink is like getting several servings of fruits and veggies in one glass.

Please understand that I am generalizing about green drinks here. Naturally there are a few that have added supplements from synthesized vitamin and mineral sources. But most are simply food and plant powders.

i just started taking GV, I mix it with Juices (Mango apple etc.)
I just started taking Colostrum, too early to tell the results.
They are both good products, and hopefully should work well together.
I take the Colostrum first and then the GV later.
Does the admin have any opinions on this?

  • 66. admin  |  January 22nd, 2010 at 1:32 pm

    Hi Randy,
Actually, yes, I have a couple of comments…first, colostrum is an excellent source of nutrients. It contains both fat- and water-soluble vitamins since it is largely made up of fat, protein and lactose. The benefits are numerous, but hopefully you are getting an organic colostrum, since non-organic bovine products are often full of hormones and chemicals that pass through the animal to its milk.

The other comment is that it’s good you’re taking the colostrum first, then the green drink. I suggest waiting at least 20 minutes between them. Bovine fats and proteins have been shown to block the body’s absorption of nutrients from foods.

Let us know how you feel with this combination. I’d love to hear the results.

  • 67. jredding  |  January 26th, 2010 at 11:06 am

I love to to make my friends drink this stuff.. it turns into an entertaining dramatic even watching them spit it up in repulsion!
I do my best to take it everyday, if I don’t I feel the difference. My mixture is two scoops plus a serving of cod liver oil, a scoop of glutamine powder, a packet of Emergen-C and sometimes and extra scoop of fiber. I mix it with 10 oz of apple juice cause it’s cheap and very sweet to cover the taste, plus the Emergen-C is flavored and helps that taste also. If I go through some high stress times or do intense workouts I absolutely insist on taking my green drink!

  • 68. Lukie  |  January 27th, 2010 at 1:41 pm

I have been a fan of GV for almost 2 years.
When my dad was diagnosed with moderate dementia and everything was going crazy, I stopped taking it and my body suffered.
Bad heartburn, constipation, bad skin, crappy hair.
I have been consistently back on it for the last 2 months and I feel absolutely better. and the heartburn and constipation are gone thank God.
I mix mine with a lot of things (admin, feel free to tell me if I should separate a few and just make 2 separate drinks instead.):
brewers yeast, apple cider vinegar, protein powder, 3-6-9 oil, rainbow vibrance, bee pollen, crushed flax seeds, almonds, sometimes fruit (if I have blender time in the morning) and soy/rice/multi-bran beverage and usually oj with added calcium.

    LOVE IT!

    I never taste the

I have broken out with eczema on my face and it seems to be spreading. Do you think it is from the Green Vibrance? I have been drinking about 6 times what it calls for.

  • 70. admin  |  February 4th, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Scott, you should cut back on GV and see a dermatologist. Bring the GV canister with you, so the doctor can look at the ingredients to see if there’s something that might be causing this reaction. Good luck!

  • 71. Teresa  |  February 12th, 2010 at 7:16 am

I’ve taken GV mixed with orange juice, and taken my vitamin supplement, calcium supplement, fish oil and flax seed oil at the same time. Does taking all of these at once interfere with the absorption of the GV nutrients?

  • 72. Peter  |  February 16th, 2010 at 5:32 pm

I absolutely love this product and have been taking it for the past three years. However, I have a few questions: 1.) I take GV mixed with whey protein everyday and was wondering if that is okay? 2.) Additional, I was wondering how many times daily should you take GV?

    Thanks,

    Peter

  • 73. admin  |  February 16th, 2010 at 5:45 pm

    hello Peter,
Well, personally, I would not mix a green drink with whey protein, since whey is a dairy product and could inhibit the body’s ability to absorb the nutrients from the green drink. If you want a protein source to go along with the GV, I’d suggest a hemp protein powder or hemp mixed with garbanzo powder (chick peas). These are both non-dairy forms of protein that the body will absorb more easily and they won’t interfere with the GV. You can find sources for hemp protein online…I’m not sure about the chick pea powder.

As for how many servings per day…the label recommends one serving per day, but I’ve personally taken up to 3 per day without problems. However, GV does contain Green Tea extract, which means it has some caffeine and may keep some people awake at night if taken later in the day. Use your body’s reaction as a guide and increase gradually — don’t just suddenly up your dose.

  • 74. Jeff  |  February 24th, 2010 at 1:37 pm

would you suggest taking this prior to jogging in the morning? I ask because, I generally down a whey protein mix with milk after the run??

  • 75. admin  |  February 24th, 2010 at 2:13 pm

    Hi Jeff,
Taking a green drink before or after you work out depends on your goals. Remember that eating before workouts supports the catabolic process (less weight gain), while eating after a workout supports the anabolic process (more weight gain and muscle building). The protein drink is going to add more calories than the green drink, so keep that in mind when you decide when to take it. For example, if you want to gain muscle mass, then take the green drink before you work out and the protein drink after. If you want to stay trim, then do the opposite (although I’d recommend a non-dairy source of protein if you want to stay trim). Keep in mind that enough time has to pass between the two, or the whey protein could interfere with the absorption of nutrients from the green drink. Come back and let us know how it goes.

  • 76. ab  |  March 3rd, 2010 at 8:04 am

ADMIN-Hello, i just started taking GV and yea, its not the best tasting thing in the world but the stuff thats best for us never is. I drink it with water and just chug. I have a few questions on this. Is it best to just drink it with water? I am looking to loss some serious weight and I was wondering if this will help (in addition to eating healthy & exercise), if so, is there a certain amount I should intake. Is just one serving enough? Should I use it in addition to something else? Also, I want my hair to grow out fast! Will this also help with that?

  • 77. admin  |  March 3rd, 2010 at 6:16 pm

    Hi Ab,
You can experiment with how many servings per day works best for you. I would probably figure 1 or 2, but more if your body really works well with it. I would not exceed 3 or 4. If you want to keep the calories down, then mix GV with any low-calorie (or no-calorie) beverage. It can be water or anything low-cal. As far as using it with something else, you can look at my article on green drink additives for some ideas. Enjoy!

  • 78. fred  |  March 7th, 2010 at 2:41 am

I’ve been using green vibrance off and on for a year, this is a valuable part of my low carb diet.

If you ask me this helps my digestion, Alone it works, but works better when add this to something like metamucil or fiber drink. I like to use this as a nighttime drink. I’ll mix it with a little protein like muscle milk+ greenvibrance+ metamucil. Its a very palatable combination.

The taste is lacking wayyyy too green but I think i’m getting results from it. I usually have to mask the flavor with something.

I think that barlean greens has green vibrance beat on taste but I think that this one works better.

  • 79. JNFriesen  |  March 27th, 2010 at 1:36 pm

I just started GV and so far, so good. I had horrible digestive issues and this has kicked me right into regularity and smoothed out the transactions if you know what I mean.

I am so tired of taking pills that I bought the 15 day prepackaged powder version and make a smoothie of ice, water, package of GV, then my vitamin D3 in flavored liquid form along with a blueberry calcium magnesium citrate. I like the Ocean Spray blueberry pomegranite flavor enhancers and use a half a unit dose for extra berry flavor and it tastes delicious.

I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing but I feel like I have made a positive move in my nutrition choices.

Thanks for the information. I learned a lot just ready through everybody’s comments!

does GV provide the daily intake of fiber or do i need to eat more?

  • 81. Bill Thomas  |  April 3rd, 2010 at 11:18 am

My uncle is taking pain medication and for a seriously botched surgery which caused permanent nerve damage (sound familiar)? Pain medication, as should be commonly known, forms a coating on the intestinal walls. This coating hinders absorption of nutrients that are needed for good health. My uncle is suffering from this problem and I am wondering how much the GV can help him in absorption and what else you might advise he do to combat this menace. Thank You

  • 82. admin  |  April 3rd, 2010 at 12:27 pm

Green Vibrance will give you nearly three grams of fiber per serving. If you take two servings per day, that’s around 6g. The daily fiber intake, according to the Food & Nutrition Board, is between 20-30g for women and 30-40g for men. The older you get, the more you move toward the low-end of the scale. Pregnant and lactating women move toward the high-end. So clearly, you need to eat more than just GV to get your daily amount of fiber. But GV is not meant to be a meal replacement anyway — rather, it’s a supplement, so don’t stop eating normally just because you’re taking GV or another green drink.

  • 83. Linda  |  April 6th, 2010 at 11:27 am

I love green vibrance, I mix it with cold apple juice and a table spoon of organic ground flaxseed, I drink it with a straw. This is an amazing product. :)

if anyone is afraid of long term use of spirulina or grasses I use new chapter berry green drink. Free of grasses. Just fruits and veggies, totally organic. When I take grasses I get horrible stomach pain, so I feel this is not a good thing. Everyone is an individual and reacts differently.

  • 85. Diane  |  April 10th, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Read comment on bladder infection. The same thing happened to me. I took marshmallow root. Seems to ease the pain. Going to stick with my berry green drink for now.

  • 86. Diane  |  April 11th, 2010 at 10:24 am

Just some additional information. Remember that green drinks detoxify the body, and if you are not eliminating properly this can affect you in a negative way. I did not realize this and had to take additional colon cleanse products and milk thistle to protect the liver. My first time using green drinks I developed horrible pain throughout my body. The second time I tried it I developed a bladder infection and was told to take by Natures Way 6 marshmallow root in a.m. and p.m. That did help, but I still feel leave the grass to cows. There are a lot of people who cannot tolerate green drinks. Spirulina in itself can affect your liver in a negative way over time. Maybe there are people who it does not affect in this way, but not for me personally. Everyone is an individual and has to know there own body. I will still stick to Berry greens by New Chapter, excellent supplements. Even taken on an empty stomach, does not make you feel nauseous. I try to control my alkalinity by diet and exercise. Remember you can also make your body too alkaline and that is what causes such things as bladder infections. Best to use PH test strips to keep an eye on it. Good Luck and Good Health to all.

I just started with Green Vibrance this week. The guy at Whole Foods gave me three of the 11.5 gm packets as a sample. He recommended I mix each packet with 10 oz of apple juice, which seems to have worked well – taste wise. Best Wishes!

  • 89. Chad  |  June 29th, 2010 at 9:24 am

I’ve been using GV for a very long time now. For me its not about taste but health. I’ve gotten so used to it, i just drink with plain water and it feels good now. I wouldn’t expect to “taste good” since there are a lot of grassy, earthly ingredients mixed, which just tells me that this stuff is legit. And with that kind of mixture, it shouldn’t taste good for all intent and purposes. GV is an absolute fantastic product with all-around great benefits. For all who “can’t beat the taste”, look at it for health and not a pleasure drink

  • 90. shelby  |  July 25th, 2010 at 5:24 am

I’ve had an impacted colon and am wondering if this drink mixed with orange juice would help. Diane, number 86, indicated that bladder infections can be caused by the body being too alkaline – I read that cranberry juice is used because it makes the urine more acidic, not allowing it to stick to the bladder walls.. don’t know if that helps.
The reason I bring these things up is because i have both problems now – UTI and intestinal impaction. And i want to know if this drink can one, can help my digestion – whether my body could be too alkaline I’ll have to take a saliva test. And two, if I should be concerned about the intestinal affects. I’m sure i have to drink plenty of water with this. How much should be enough? should I mix this with apple juice, oj what?

    help is needed.

  • 91. admin  |  July 26th, 2010 at 1:11 am

    Shelby,
I can’t help you with specifics about your condition or even predict how the green drinks will affect you. However, I can suggest that you go slowly. If you’re thinking of mixing a green drink with orange or cranberry juice…then first see how your body reacts to plain orange or cranberry juice before you start adding the green drink. If that goes well, then start adding the green drink slowly in small amounts and measure the effects before adding more. Good luck!

  • 92. Shela  |  July 26th, 2010 at 9:55 am

I see great ideas on how to mask the strong taste of the product. But my issue is it doesn’t seem to disslove. It sticks to the walls of my blender, it sticks to the walls of my cup and there is a pool of it on the bottom of the cup when I finish drinking it. I can only imagine that I’m only ingesting a fourth of the product.
    Anyone have suggestions?

  • 93. Clare  |  July 27th, 2010 at 1:19 pm

Hi after taking my 8 year old daughter to a nutritionist she suggested that my daughter go on GV for the acid reflux and sinus problem. After two weeks on GV her entire body was covered in red blotches and then she developed a cold. Could this be a side effect or the body detoxing? The GV is the adult dose. Should we carry on with it or get the children dose? How long can we keep her on GV? GV has given her a boost in energy and concentration. Please reply if you can. `thanks

  • 94. admin  |  July 27th, 2010 at 6:41 pm

It could be the dosage. It could be a detox reaction. It could also be an allergic reaction to something in the formula. Green Vibrance has a LOT of special herbs in it. Any one of these could be causing an allergic reaction. First, stop taking GV for awhile until the symptoms go away. Then, to find out what’s causing the problem, try lowering the dose and see if that makes a difference. If not, then try a different product…one that has fewer ingredients. If that works, then you know something in the mixture is causing the reaction.

    good luck!

  • 97. Drew  |  October 6th, 2010 at 4:07 pm

I a completely torn between ‘Green Vibrance’ and ‘Green Lightning’ from Source of Life. I am now actually taking both of them, at roughly 2 servings each daily (mixed with Simply Lemonade and cold water as always). This seems like the best site on the net for my question – is it okay to mix there two products like that, and is there a risk of overdosing on something if I keep up this intake level or go higher? GV has a wider following and it seems more popular. If I had to switch, I know the Green Lightning company also offers Red, Yellow, and Rainbow versions. Would these be better to supplement my green intake through GV? Thanks for your time!

  • 98. admin  |  October 6th, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Drew, there is no reason you can’t mix the two products. However, keep an eye on your body’s reaction to your dosage, as 4 servings per day is more than the suggested amount. It depends on you and your body…some people can take that much and even more. Others can’t. After a few months, you might consider switching to a different formula for awhile to give your body something new. The Red or Rainbow versions might be just the thing for that…or check out the Red Drinks on our companion site (see top menu).

  • 99. Drew  |  October 8th, 2010 at 8:25 am

Thanks for the quick reply! I am a pretty big fellow and haven’t any negative reactions so I will keep at it, and maybe try switching for a while down the road. I know nothing about red drinks so I’m excited to look into those!

It tastes like low tide, but does the trick. I believe my vision is improving and don’t have a lot of time, so I just shoot it down with about two inches of water. Horrible, but effective.

  • 101. Lindsay  |  November 15th, 2010 at 9:22 am

I have been taking GV for 6 months now, I am not a fan of the taste but i do think its a great supplement and makes me feel more energized. However I am trying to get pregnant, is this good for preconception and is it safe to take during pregnancy?

  • 102. admin  |  November 15th, 2010 at 10:07 am

Lindsay, I always like to say that anything that improves your overall health would be good for conception and preconception. However, some green drink formulations have herbs in them that might be counter-productive for your pregnancy program and Green Vibrance is one of those. I would consider switching to a simpler formula that just concentrates on veggie powders and grasses…without the “special herbs” like Milk Thistle and Suma. But before you do anything, check it out with your doctor or nutritionist to be sure.

  • 103. Lisa  |  November 26th, 2010 at 5:07 pm

I’m surprised by the comments on taste but as many have suggested, don’t just use water. I put it in natural apple cider from TJ’s and it’s quite delicious. My local supplement shop suggested GV of all the green products he sells. I have no side effects and have to wonder if some are having an allergic reaction to some of the ingredients. Why would greens give someone a headache? Makes no sense.

I drink this before working out and it seems to give me some energy as well as the antioxidant/vitamin benefit. I’m sold on the stuff and I used to HATE greens. It took a while before i was brave enough to buy it….now I don’t leave home without it

I know the cannister recommends freezing for storage, but I have been using lately the single serving packets which I keep in my cool (Cali winter) trunk so that I can drink on the go. Anyone have any idea if the packets preserve well enough kept at about room temp?

  • 108. shawn  |  December 29th, 2010 at 7:09 pm

I have been taking Vitamineral Green for the past few weeks and I have noticed that I feel quite a bit worse that usual – probably due to the strong headaches it gives me. I’m allergic to a lot of things unfortunately…

Anyway, I’ve order Green Vibrance and Fruits of the Earth. I am going to try alternating those daily and see if my headaches lessen – especially on the days that I take FotE.

Most expensive headache I even bought! :) I wish I could find a good green drink that doesn’t scramble my brain and gives me a noticable boost in health.

Whoops, sorry for all the typos in that last post. I’m sporting one of those awesome headaches right now.

  • 110. Marvin  |  January 1st, 2011 at 12:11 pm

I purchased my first batch yesterday. I drank the recommended dose in water and within about 20 minutes, I felt a natural energy rise up within me. I thought maybe it was coincidental since I know we all have our ups and downs throughout the day. I gave some to my son who is into hard core training and says he never feels anything from supplements. This time he said he did notice a boost in energy. I took some this morning, and in 20 minutes, I noticed a similar energy boost. This stuff has piqued my interest to say the least. I’m interested to see how it affects me after taking it long term. Regarding the taste, for pete’s sake, people, not everything is supposed to taste like strawberry cheesecake or cookies and creme. Get some discipline and suck it up!

I read Tim Ferris’s book The 4 Hour Body, wherein he preaches a “slow carb” diet. Among other supplements, he recommends/endorses a green drink called “Athletic Greens”. Ferris claims AG is the only superfood supplement that he trusts, blah blah. It costs $2.90 per serving (not per ounce, per serving). That’s a whopping $7.25 per ounce!

Not one to believe the hype, I went down to my local Whole Foods and read the labels of every green drink in the store. I settled on Green Vibrance. I’m only 2 days in and here is what I have to report:

Day 1: “This stuff looks like swamp water!” I exclaim to my wife. She wishes me luck, and makes sure my life insurance policy is paid. I choke it down using the recommended 8oz of water. It takes me a good 10-12 tiny sips combined with 1-2 “hold my nose” gulps. I don’t notice anything off the bat (hey, it’s not a RedBull or anything), and continue life as normal.

Day 2: I decide to try it with only 4 ounces of water, and it’s much darker and more concentrated. The taste is actually no worse with 4oz of water, but remarkably there is only half the volume of green stuff to choke down. I open wide and polish it off in 2-3 big gulps. No big deal. I think this will be my preferred method of consumption.

Only 2 days into this and I feel noticeably more “oomph” to carry me through the day. I feel like I’m sleeping better, and in general have an overall sense of well being.

Some (myself included) might argue that 2 days into any diet/drug/supplement regimen is not enough to feel a physical difference, so this could admittedly be psychological. However, I feel the GV may just be the missing link in the Slow Carb diet I started 8 days ago.

In any case, I am happy with GV so far and plan to try it for at least another 30 days to see how I feel after this “honeymoon” phase.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could test Athletic Greens to see if it’s really worth the ridiculous price.

I wonder if the energy boost is from the caffine in the Green Tea, of from improved physiological productivity due to the nutrients. Probably a little of both.

Either way I can’t wait for mine to arrive. I hope it doesn’t give me headaches like Vitamineral Green.

  • 113. Dan  |  January 5th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

I like all the ingredients in GV except the lecithan. How do others feel? Is lecithan a health concern? Seems like this is disputed. The company even has a statement on their website about this!

  • 114. shawn  |  January 6th, 2011 at 8:40 am

My Green Vibrance package finally arrived in the mail yesterday. I have only taken it twice so far, but I am happy to report that:

    1) It doesn’t give me headaches like Vitamineral Green does. On the contrary, it gives me a mental boost.

    2) It lists *exactly* what is in the project and in what amounts. Vitamineral Green does not.

    3) Tastes marginally better than Vitamineral Green. (although that’s not saying much)

So far, I am very happy with GV.

Purchased this product today and mixed and drank it with coconut water. I like the earthy taste, but it is gritty .. as far as results, I’ll report back in a month.

  • 116. jeff  |  January 17th, 2011 at 1:13 pm

since recommended 6-7 yrs ago… GV has been my (not so) secret little weapon. the boost to my immune system has been dramatic. rarely do i get whatever is going around at our kid’s school and if i so… it’s a mini version with significantly lessened symptoms.

if you mentally don’t get too wrapped up in the pond scum / swamp bottom taste… disclaimer, i’ve grown to like the taste and have been known to eat it dry in a pinch… i can’t imagine that the benefits to your health are not worth finding a mix that works for you!!

  • 117. ms ace  |  January 21st, 2011 at 2:41 am

I started taking green vibrance a week ago and i have noticed that i have been getting headaches near the end of the day. I have also been taking Klamath blue-green algae pills (2) in the morning 20-30 minutes before drinking GV w/cranberry juice. Could the Klamath blue-green algae pills be causing me the headaches? I love GV and i feel like my face is clearing up from acne and is glowing. I also take D3 supplements. The last symptom im getting is some minor pain in the side. i can’t tell if im just being too analytical or not but i feel like this may be a side affect. can you please help?

  • 118. admin  |  January 21st, 2011 at 11:29 am

    ms ace,
stop taking everything. Then start each supplement by itself to see which one is giving you the headaches. It could be any of the items you are taking. Good luck.

  • 119. Ms ace  |  January 21st, 2011 at 6:01 pm

    Thank you. I’ll try that.

Question: how many servings of fruit does green vibrance offer? I saw ur response on veggies. That sounds great. I’m just wondering if I need another supplement to get my fruit servings as well.

  • 120. kat  |  February 1st, 2011 at 6:14 am

Admin, do you have any comments about comment #113? I also have concerns about the dispute regarding lecithin and it’s the only thing keeping me from ordering GV

  • 121. admin  |  February 1st, 2011 at 12:30 pm

Kat, I have posted a new article on Lecithin here: Lecithin: SuperFood, Filler or Fraud?.

I hope this helps. Post comments or questions here or on that article if you have more concerns.

How is Green Vibrance when compared to Emerald Balance. I have been using Emerald Balance for many years, but recently I compared whats in Green Vibrance and there seems to be more in it. Any recommendations?

I would try Vitamineral but it has far to many probiotics in it for me. I have a J-Pouch and it would take far to long to adapt to that strong of a probiotic formula.

  • 123. admin  |  February 9th, 2011 at 9:07 pm

    Keven,
These are both great formulas and both very popular. The choice is entirely up to you and which one makes you feel best. Remember, that it’s not always about which formula has more ingredients…but about which ingredients work best for you and the quality of those ingredients. The only way know for sure is to try them both out yourself and decide. If you like them both, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t switch between them from time to time. This gives your body a change, which is a good thing.

I drink this is a shot glass and say * salute* to my heath before shooting it down like a whisky it works =)

  • 125. Sal  |  March 7th, 2011 at 8:28 am

Hey guys, I’ve been drinking Green Vibrance for a couple weeks now but am concerned about a couple of things.

What I usually do when I wake up is drink a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 8oz of water. Then I wait about 15 minutes to eat breakfast. During breakfast I take a b-complex vitamin and also a fish oil capsule. About 30-45 minutes later, I drink my Green Vibrance in 8oz of orange juice.

I am just concerned that the apple cider vinegar and orange juice might be affecting how the nutrients in the Green Vibrance are being absorbed. I’ve read many people saying that the acidity levels of orange juice make the body break down the nutrients which is a bad thing. The apple cider vinegar is defiantly very acidic so I’m just wondering what you guys think, Like I said, I take the apple cider vinegar about an hour before drinking the Green Vibrance but am unsure what exactly is happening in my body as far as absorbtion goes.

    Thanks

Hi..I am new to Green Vibrance. What do most of you do? Take it in the morning? take it with a lunch, dinner? take it after or before a meal? Also, taking Green Vibrance, has anyone lost weight or noticed their belly fat go down? thank you. TP

  • 127. Jeff  |  March 29th, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Hi, I have been taking GV for about 6 years and I have to say I have yet to catch a cold or a flu in this 6 year period. The wife and the kids get sick from time to time but I seem to aviod it. Could it be the GV? I wish I could get them to drink it.

  • 128. Tricia  |  March 30th, 2011 at 8:05 am

why isn’t Green Vibrance certified ORAC??

  • 129. Sam  |  March 31st, 2011 at 7:13 am

I bought a different brand of green powder supplement but was wondering, what do you do concerning the grit? Does it have to be consumed? Can you soak it in water with a coffee filter like a tea bag, or mix it in and then strain it?

  • 130. admin  |  March 31st, 2011 at 11:09 am

    Tricia,
The reply I received from the Green Vibrance company is as follows:

“Green Vibrance makes no mention of ORAC for several reasons. When the product was created back in 1992, ORAC measurements did not exist. Years later, ORAC measurements of free radical scavenging capacity were developed, but not standardized. There is still significant controversy surrounding the accuracy of any ORAC measurement and the methods used. We have found the truth of any such ORAC claim made by other manufacturers to be a bit murky. Therefore, we do not rely on ORAC as a measurement of our product quality.”

My comments: This is actually quite true. There has been a lot of manipulation of the ORAC value designation on products and it’s not as reliable as you might think. I recommend using it only as a “general guide” to the anti-oxidants contained in a product…but not as a way to compare the quality of products. Look at the ingredients and make a decision based on knowledge of what’s actually inside the product. Use the many articles on this site to help. Here are a few that might be useful:

In the case of Green Vibrance, the formulation is not specifically made to beat out all other products in ORAC value or anti-oxidant punch. Rather, this is a blend that is designed mostly for overall health and nutrition.

  • 131. Willy  |  March 31st, 2011 at 8:04 pm

After a week of taking green vibrance I feel a huge difference. I first tried mixing one scoop in 8oz of OJ it wasnt too bad. Now I mix one scoop with 4oz of OJ, plug my nose, down it, and chase it down with another 4oz of OJ. Can’t even taste it!

  • 132. Allyson N. Jason  |  April 9th, 2011 at 2:56 am

I started a vegan, gluten-free detox eating plan about 2 weeks ago and I immediately began taking ChlorOxgyen liquid drops with water twice a day, and Green Vibrance, as nutritional supplements and detox enhancers.

In the beginning, I drank Green Vibrance exclusively with water. It has no bitter or sour taste. It’s just a grassy, mealy flavor and texture, so if you do not like that, you might find it hard to drink only with water, but you get used to the taste. Best not to sip, Just drink it all down in one sitting and get the powder in you. LOL

You really have to blend it well into your liquid of choice so that the powder can froth up, mix in, and NOT settle down at the bottom of your glass as it’ll likely do.

Anyway, I am a huge fan of drinking fresh, unsweetened coconut water. I dink it often. So, I began adding Green Vibrance to about 8 oz. of coconut water and immediately felt it was great way to have the powder. The coconut water adds a natural, refreshing sweetness without relying on any refined sugars. Make sure your coconut water is cold when you add the powder.

Other good juice options are pressed and natural apple juice (make your own or buy a good organic brand without added sugars), pressed mango juice, blueberry juice, pear juice, and pineapple juice.

Make sure these are organic, if you can afford it, or simply make the juice bases yourself and then add and blend the Green Vibrance powder in well.

Great product. I take it every day and fully recommend it. And I love the price. It’s reasonable for what you get and how long it lasts.

  • 133. Pat  |  April 12th, 2011 at 9:05 pm

I have been taking Green Vibrance 10.0 for over a year and I have really been able to tell the difference in my energy levels even while loosing a considerable amount of weight (substitute meal or meals with Green Vibrance). Also my resistance to sickness and even allergies have seen drastic improvements. However while disposing the old container I noticed Vibrant Health increased the net wt from 690 grams to 720 grams with no increase in price which is unheard of today. Nevertheless this made me curious as to if they had made any changes to the ingredients. As I compared my old container to the new one I counted 9 changes to key ingredients all of which are now lower except for carrot root which went up 50 mg. The others went down significantly and are as follows. Gentian root, dandelion, tamarind, whole apple powder, kelp, rockweed, kamut (400mg to 80mg), and beet juice. I also noticed that the fiber content dropped but the sugar was higher. Some of these ingredients are very useful but I am not sure if they will make a huge difference in the usefulness of the product. We will see.
Oh and by the way this stuff does not taste like a Mcdonalds milk shake but how good are one of those for you? I like 6oz’s V-8 2oz’s of water, with a shot of Tobasco to kiil the taste.

  • 134. Pat  |  April 26th, 2011 at 1:28 am

I have been drinking GV for over a year. I use it to supplement a diet and have had great results with little or no hunger (and before you think it that is not because this stuff ruins my appetite). I’ll admit it does not taste like a McDonald’s Milk Shake but I can get it down pretty easy if I drink it cold and mix it right. I either use 4oz V-8 with 4oz of water, a little Tobasco, and some Garlic oil with crushed ice. Or the same ratio as the V-8 and water mixture but without anything but grape juice, water, and crushed ice. Oh and by the way I have lost 40 lbs, my resistance to colds has completely improved, and within about 10 minutes after drinking GV I can feel the extra energy.

  • 135. Laurie  |  April 26th, 2011 at 5:57 pm

Add the powder to juice. I prefer organic mango or mango peach

  • 136. james  |  April 27th, 2011 at 1:17 am

Hi! I starting taking GV yesterday but still eat my regular diet…caffeine, candy, cookies, salad, veggies, meat, prretty much everything but i am wondering if this is still considered a detoxification? Also, what are the negative side effects? I think diarrhea might be one of them.
    THANKS!!

  • 137. james  |  April 27th, 2011 at 1:19 am

also, can I take other multi vitamins with GV, like nordic naturals nordic berries, flaxseed oil and/or fish oil. Thanks so much!!

  • 138. Jannette  |  April 27th, 2011 at 5:46 am

How long do I need to wait to eat aftr drinking GV?

  • 139. Kat  |  May 2nd, 2011 at 7:12 am

I’ve been taking this for 2 weeks so far. GV is a very good product but the side affects for me at times are a bit much. Maybe these are detox symptoms, if so great. I have a lower back pain that feels like pressure. Once I “poop” it subsides. This new side affect appeared a week ago. But I have noticed less pain with arthritis and my mood is not as unstable. Anyone, does this sound like a side affect? As far as taste? Well this is how I drink it: 1-2 scoops GV, 2 Dates, 1 serving Hemp Protein, 8 walnuts, blend! Its delicious. I used to put raw cacao in it but chocolate makes my arthritis worse. I add another ingredient but I didn’t list it in fear of someone thinking I was advertising something.

  • 140. lisa  |  May 14th, 2011 at 3:44 am

I really like the taste of Green Vibrance. I take it with water after my morning meal and it is like my dessert. Perhaps because I am a vegetarian and I’m used to certain flavors, I like the subtle sweetness of the GV. Oh . . . and it gives me lots of energy and does nice things for my skin.

  • 141. Stephanie  |  May 20th, 2011 at 8:22 am

Ok, so there are a ton of different greens drinks…which ones are the best quality, best tasting, and best price?

For example: Green Vibrance, Athletic Greens, JuicePlus, Biotest Superfood, Greens+, Greens+ Berry.

I want to start taking but I tried some random brand I cant remember…i just remember i almost threw up.

    Suggestions???

  • 142. admin  |  May 20th, 2011 at 11:34 am

Hi Stephanie, In the reviews on this site, I’ve tried to give you a good idea of the quality, price, and taste of these drinks, so you can begin to narrow your search down to a few products. Ultimately, you’ll have to taste and try them yourself to decide, especially since it sounds like taste is important to you. What I like may not be what you like. For example, I can’t stand the taste of stevia natural sweetener, so I avoid all products that contain it. Other people have no problem with it. I prefer mixing a neutral-tasting green drink with chocolate or berries or even spicy tomato juice. And I don’t mind using a little natural cane sugar to sweeten my green drink concoction. That steers me toward the drinks that DON’T have any strong flavor of their own.

Other people will have different requirements. Maybe you want a drink that you can quickly mix and go — because you don’t have time to create a smoothie in your blender. It’s not an easy choice and you might have to try several different drinks to see which one(s) suit you best. I hope this site gets you part of the way there. Good luck!

  • 143. Lee  |  June 11th, 2011 at 12:25 pm

I have been making green drinks in my vita mix for about a year. Unfortunately, I usually end up throwing away some greens due to spoilage. Now, I buy fresh berries and freeze them after a few days. I just bout the green vibrance and had my first serving in a shake with vanilla soy milk , water, strawberry, banana and mango. It was delicious. I have a cold and really not feel well but oddly noticed that my stuffiness went away for a few hours after my drink. Hmmm…food for thought?
Anyway, no matter if I don’t feel any different, I know it is good for me. My question is, are fresh vegetables put through the vitamix better for you than these powders?

  • 144. admin  |  June 11th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

    Lee,
In theory, using fresh veggies in a machine like the Vitamix is the best way to get nutrition from greens, fruits and veggies. However, there are some practical issues that affect the outcome: First, if your fruits and veggies are laced with pesticides, or just poor quality, then you might be taking away some of the benefit of fresh juicing. Also, it’s unlikely that you’ll be getting the variety of ingredients in your fresh juice that you’d get with a good green drink. So my suggestion is to get organic fruits and veggies to mix in the Vitamix, but also add a 1/2 serving of your green powder to the mixture. Your green drink will last twice as long and you’ll be assured of getting the benefits from BOTH the fresh juicing and the green powder.

  • 145. Lee  |  June 11th, 2011 at 6:06 pm

Re:response 144. I like your idea of mixing fresh greens with powered greens. I feel healthier already! Thank you.

  • 146. Lee  |  June 14th, 2011 at 6:30 pm

Well, it has been about 5 days into the green vibrance addition to my daily health shakes. I feel like i m needing less sleep and even exercised twice today, once at the gym at 6 am and again tonight on my eliptical. Hope i dont crash and burn! Glad i tried it. Will keep u all posted.

  • 147. elle  |  June 22nd, 2011 at 12:55 pm

I really need to know if green vibrance helps in hair growth??? please

  • 148. Cindy  |  July 1st, 2011 at 11:46 am

I have Lyme Disease and other immune system issues…I take multiple prescription meds, other sups and vits and added Green Vibrance to my daily routine 8 days ago and it has really helped to decrease my fatigue….I have been getting treatment for 3 years and this is one that has really helped me with fatigue. I mix one scoop of the Green Vibrance with Apple Juice and it is very tolerable, actually I like the taste….which must mean my body needs it!!!

  • 149. Tanisha  |  July 5th, 2011 at 9:46 am

I love this stuff, I recently ran out I’m about to get some more. I have had bad acne for as far back as I remember (I’m 26 now) After drinking this for a month my skin cleared all up. I got so many compliments on my complexion. Also, I have a very week immune system since I’ve been on Green Vibrance I have not got sick once and that has been since Otctober 2010. Off drinking this alone I haven’t lost any weight but I do have more energy, so I do work out more now, ut has helped me in so many ways. Best investment EVER!

  • 150. Lisa  |  July 6th, 2011 at 8:32 am

I noticed that non-GMO Soy Lecithin is in a lot of these drinks. Is that the same as SOY? I would like to avoid SOY. I had read different things about soy leciithin…it has benefits but also that it is not good for you. I take a drink called Absolute Greens by Alignlife. It is great but it also has 1800mg of lecithin. I was going to switch to Green Vibrance because it only has 750mg of it. What is your opinioin of the soy lecithin? Thank you!

  • 151. admin  |  July 6th, 2011 at 10:51 am

Lisa, check out my article on lecithin: Lecithin: SuperFood, Filler or Fraud? for more info. I hope it helps you make an informed decision.

  • 153. Bill McCormick  |  August 7th, 2011 at 7:21 am

Drink it straight down in 16 oz of tap water. I don’t make a big deal about the taste, I’m drinking for affect! I don’t care what it taste like, I just want the affect. My advice is to get off the taste kick and know that you are chugging it down for your health….heck, after awhile it gives me a sense of accomplisment every time I down a glass full. That portion of my commitment to health has been accomplished for that day. Go for it!!

  • 154. aly  |  August 12th, 2011 at 3:54 am

Hi, I just started taking GV on a regular basis. Been doing this for a few days now. I noticed that last 2 nights, I had trouble staying asleep. Your thoughts?

  • 155. aly  |  August 12th, 2011 at 3:55 am

Adding to previous note…I take it in the AM.

  • 156. admin  |  August 13th, 2011 at 9:26 am

Green Vibrance is an energy enhancing formula and includes, among other things, green tea extract. That could possibly alter your sleep patterns if you are not used to the extra caffeine. It’s possible your body could adjust (since you are taking it in the morning only). If not, then you might need a formula without the caffeine. Give it a little time before making your final decision.

  • 157. Jamie  |  September 1st, 2011 at 5:58 pm

    Hello,
Is anyone familiar with any green drink that only contains veggies and maybe some fruits? I have been bedridden for 10 months with severe bacterial overgrowth and now leaky gut. My system is so weak, I cannot handle ANYTHING that may cause a detox. I have become very sensitive and intolerant to many foods and herbs, so I just want the natural veggies for some energy and to help provide me with nutrients and vitamins. I take supplements, but cannot absorb anything in that form from the leaky gut syndrome. So, my iron and other vitamins and minerals are depleted. Any suggestions It help would be great. I understand juicing and using organic fruits and veggies are great, but I can’t even get out of bed on my own at this time, so that is out of the question for now. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • 158. Millie  |  September 1st, 2011 at 11:30 pm

My husband and I are 79 and 83 yrs of age. We have been taking GV daily usually with breakfast or right after a meal. You stated that it was best taken on an empty stomach for better absorption. What is the interval before or after a meal. We’ve been taking GV for about 2 yrs. plus ; have not had a cold or flu since on the product. We exercise for 1-2 hrs.., 4-6 times a week at the gym. We do have some health problems but essentially are pain free.

  • 159. admin  |  September 2nd, 2011 at 9:18 am

Hi Millie, thanks for sharing your experience with us. I also never get colds of flu and I think that’s one of the benefits of good nutrition. As for how long to wait before eating, I think around 20 to 30 minutes is fine. Stay well!

  • 160. admin  |  September 2nd, 2011 at 9:21 am

Jamie, I agree that juicing would be the best thing for you, so if you could get someone to help, that would be your best bet. Otherwise, browse the reviews on this site to find the green drinks with the ingredients you prefer and go from there. Good luck!

  • 161. Jamie  |  September 2nd, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Thank you admin for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I don’t have anyone to juice for me daily and don’t have the means for organic fruits and veggies each day since I haven’t worked in 10 months. I’ve looked through the ingredients here, but it seems all of the green drinks either contain some type of caffeine or herbs that I cannot tolerate while I’m this weak. I appreciate your help though. Is there anyone else who may have had a green drink with just veggies or veggies and fruits in powder form? It seems like I read bout some a few months ago strictly for energy and nutrients, but I cannot seem to find that info again. Thank you for any help again in advance.

  • 162. Vanessa  |  September 2nd, 2011 at 10:50 pm

Hi! I’ve been taking green vibrance for a week now. I don’t think it tastes too bad. I usually mix it with a chocolate protein shake. I feel great, except that since I’ve started taking it, my skin on my arms, shoulders, and upper back have developed very small bumps. Not like hives, but more like acne. I’ve never had acne problems before. Could this be part of the detox my body is going through? If so, how long till it goes away?
    Thanks!

  • 163. admin  |  September 3rd, 2011 at 10:52 am

Hi Vanessa. That is a typical detox reaction, but to be absolutely sure…give it about 30 days and if it doesn’t go away, try switching green drinks. During the 30 days, continue to take the Green Vibrance normally and monitor your reactions. Stop if you see or feel any other adverse reactions. Also, try cutting down on sugar, dairy, saturated fats, and chemical additives. These are often the foods that are producing the toxins to begin with.

  • 164. hboss  |  September 16th, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Well as a psoriasis sufferer I’m pretty excited to begin using a ‘green drink’ daily and believe there are bound to be improvements after reading this blog, thanks!

  • 165. Rob  |  September 17th, 2011 at 10:57 am

Jamie, you might have a look at the product “Field of Greens”

I might be the only persont that actually enjoys the taste of this. I mix it with a cup of original soy milk. This is only my second day and I feel good. I usually get very tired in the late afternoon, but felt great today.

I’ll be honest. It tastes horrible! Must be mixed in a juice. I actually mix with the orange flavored Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy. Drink quick….
It’s the smell of the greens that get’s you.

    But!!!
Wow. Too be honest, I have never had such a regular digestive tract (if you know what I mean) in so long. It has really helped my digestion, and I think it also has improved how I tolerate taking whey protein for working out.

I consider a must take supplement.

Here’s my drink recipe. It tastes great and is really healthy. I use it instead of a meal at least once per day.

In a quality blender, add 10 oz of water.

One scoop of low carb chocolate protein powder (MRM).

    One heaping tablespoon of Metamucil.

One heaping tablespoon of Forti-flax (organic flax seed).

One heaping teaspoon of Green Vibrance powder.

    One banana.

One cup of raw, baby spinach leaves.

    Two cups of ice cubes.

    Blend until icey and smooth.

    Enjoy!

For variety, sometimes I substitute a peeled apple.

I started taking GV a couple months ago but immediately had really bad headaches. I assumed this was the detox process but after a week, I couldn’t take it anymore and stopped. I started up again this past week and again immediately had bad headaches again. Am I detoxing or am I having a reaction to GV? I bought the big container and if I can’t take it, I wonder if I’m even able to return it. Should I take it longer than a week to see if the headaches might go away? I don’t seem to be experiencing the benefits everyone else talks about but it may be because the headaches are so bad, I can’t feel the positive side effects. Any advice?

    Jennifer,
Headaches are not a normal detox effect, so you are most likely having a kind of allergic reaction to one or more of the ingredients in this mixture. I recommend switching to a simpler formula (GV has a lot of ingredients and you would do better with a formula that has fewer things in it) and seeing if you can figure out what ingredient(s) is causing the problem. I’d suggest going to a health food store to buy the single-serving packets, so you can try several of them without making a huge investment. When you find one that works for you, stick with it.

    Good luck!

I use 5 0z. of Almond milk and 6 oz of Greek Yogurt it makes it creamy and much easier to swallow. I also helps to kill the grass smell. Just mix it sll together and youa re good to go.

I drink it with rice drink and it’s delicious. I drink it in the evening. Is that alright? Should I be drinking it in the morning?

I started taking GV for a few months now, and I love it. I bought it for my 13 year old son who eats very few vegi/fruit and he doesn’t love it but would gulp it down everyday when offered.

My question is, I’ve been mixing with mango and apple juice of 60 oz and 10 scoops of GV and store it in the refrigerator for convenience,(it usually last for two days) would the nutrition of GV decrease in that manner?

I’ve tried to mix GV with smoothies, not a big fan.
Hard to stomach when mixed with water too.
But I found a way to enjoy it now.

    Hot water, not boiling
Tablespoon of Bee Pollen Honey (or plain honey)
    Scoop of GV

    taste pretty good now!

I have been taking GV for a little over 4 years now and I absolutely LOVE IT. Yes the taste is not the best but if you mix it with juice or soy yogurt and some fresh/frozen fruit, you will be fine. I will say that once I started taking this product that I saw result in my energy almost instantly, which lead to weight loss. When I took a little break, my acne came back, started feeling sluggish and not really myself. So I pretty much swear by this product Honestly, this product is like the best that is out there.

First time buyers, do not drink it with water. It will turn you off, start this product mixed in juice or mixed in a smoothie. The mix with water people are like soldiers. Good luck.
